Goodbye Diu

Good afternoon!

I am feeling better!

Hooray!

Yes, the fantastic news is true. I feel better. Now I just need to continue eating like a regular human being again to help regain all that weight I lost over the past month! No problem with all the cookies and other snacks available at cheap prices :D. Don't worry, we also munch on fresh fruit and nuts as well. Steph particularly loves guavas.

Yesterday we had the wonderful experience of renting a Scooty! We buzzed around town on it tearing up the roads at 30km/h. It was really quite an enjoyable experience :-) We've got some photos of us riding and posing, but I don't have the camera with me to upload them.

Anyway, we're gearing up to get the heck out of this quirky paradise. We're heading to the big city Ahmedabad tomorrow, if we can get tickets, which shouldn't be a problem.

I'm glad you're feeling better, Pete. The world will seem a lighter place without that heavy baggage. And I'm sort of glad to hear you and Steph will be leaving Diu soon. This is old-fashioned parental concern... for reasons I can't explain, the place gives me the creeps. But I guess it's sunny and beachy. On the other hand, we've had snow here the last few days... not on the ground yet, just in the air.

Love and peace to you both.

Hahaha, dad I'm baffled why Diu gives you the creeps! Was it all the smells that Pete described?

Love ya!

However baffling it may seem, for most bafflements there is an explanation, if not a solution. I recall the words of one of my favourite scribes: "...the men are weird here... they all come here to get drunk ... we get approached so much. they just come and stare. it can be annoying."

As far as the smells go---to high Heaven?---, I'm an Old Fart so what the heck.

More seriously, I see on your agenda that Bhopal is coming up. This was the site of one of the worst man-made environmental disasters in history. A Union Carbide plant leaked gas all over the city. It was heavy and people breathed it and it burnt their lungs and eyes. Many deaths and permanent injuries. I think it was before you were born and it had world-wide repercussions, something like 9-11. I'm sure you will hear the stories. But it certainly is an excuse for the locals to hate westerners since I think it was a US plant and it was horrible. By comparison the smells Pete described would be like a breath of fresh air.

I'm glad you guys have this blog. It's great to hear your voice.

Love ya too!
Dad

That is crazy about Bhopal. Actually, we were already planning to skip it. In order to spend some extra time in certain places we have to compensate somehow. Adios, Bhopal!
